Yesterday I recieved a forward mail with an appeal to my patriotism - Vote for Taj!
The mail was deleted without any loss of time, but the topic stayed for some time for its irritation-value. The only thought that came to my mind was in form of a picture, a picture of a man taking his wife with him and asking every passer-by, "Isnt my wife beautiful?"
Tajmahal can stand on its own foundation, it doesn't need any support. And Beauty is not a mandate, it doesn't need unanimity. It is not a commodity that needs marketing and market survey. But my fellow Indians have embraced the culture of shopkeepers rather well. Today we see them canvassing for their motherland, tomorrow they may be seen on streets standing with their mothers, "Please taste this. My mom is one of the world's top 7 cooks."
In evening, they will go home and order pizza.
Note: I wonder if someone blunt asks them how many dishes have they really tasted before telling others that it is their mom who cooks the best. Others too love their mothers, don't they?

True, It's sad to know that we need someone else's sanction to know that the Taj Mahal is indeed a priceless monument.

As we had discussed, why should we invest our pride to a crazy him of a white man - 7 wonders! Why 7?
Why don't they make their own system of wonders - may be 10 wonders? Will that satisfy them? No, because they earnestly look towards the white man for approval. It's not about beauty, it's about glory, vicarious glory.
The man who really loves Taj will have no time spare for this noisy nonsense; coz passionate love is silent love.
Abhishek, if you ask any of these guys, who are gung-ho about voting for Taj,to name the current 7 wonders of the world, I highly doubt that they will be able to do so.
The reason I am pointing out this is because the claim that this "sanction" would propel the TAJ to greater heights of popularity is living under false hopes.
If these guys who are, I believe, quite well-informed, do not even know the current 7 wonders, how can they assume that others would know about the new 7 wonders.
oops, typo :)
claim doesn't live.
that claim is nothing but wishful thinking.

Valid Point. We should go and ask our friend how many wonders he knows. :)
Beauty has nothing to do with votes. Just being in a populous country will not make Taj a wonder. And if it is a wonder, it doesnt have to be dependent on its people's mania for glory.
But yes, voting has definitely something to do with number of hits on this website, which in turn has something to do with advertisements, and revenue.
The fool who votes for Taj thinking that his approval makes it a wonder, is a wonderfool in himself...
Personally, I find the Taj as boring as the Eiffel Tower. The world inside Albert Camus' novels is more of a wonder of the world.
Recommendation: Search for 'Esraj' on youtube.
Also, the whole is that:
The Swiss fellow Weber started this profit-making organization called New Seven Wonders of the World. He decided to launch the final list on 7th July this year: the date is 7.7.7 - Obviously, he hankers after self promotion and profits.
The company is not even affiliated with the UNESCO. The results of the poll show countries with insecurities about their threatened identities as leading the pack viz. South American Countries. Egypt is taking a narcissitic approach to the issue; they think it is a conspiracy against Egyptian culture and civilization. Indians, too, I supposed, would've joined the race. but they were technologically too backwards to be aware of this. You may heard Orkut is very popular in South America, espcially Brazil. The results affirm how hooked they are on the Internet, like they were on drugs. The great Mexican poet Octavio Paz meditated with worries over this threatened identity and insecurity in his book 'The Labrynth of Solitude'.
It's best not to worry about this by sparing your valuable attention towards this nonsense. What we can worry about, however, is how trust is being manufactured and sold through an oppressively constructed virtual majority of opinion. We cannot move forward without trust, and such activities completely negate the difficult machinations of sacrifices of yesteryears and centuries of trust and truth.
It only goes on to show word of mouth is our last resort, because it is in accordance with the truth rooted in our experience.
-Ah, you know who..

Who else!
7.7.7!! How imbecile!
"What we can worry about, however, is how trust is being manufactured and sold through an oppressively constructed virtual majority of opinion. We cannot move forward without trust..."
Trust - your favorite topic :)
I am not sure if I got a full grasp of this - this is a profound thought. But if trust can be quickly manufactured by the intercourse of trickery and credulity, made easier by technology, we have to move forward without it. Or we have to guard our sensitivities even more. Political awareness and Reason can help here, if not carried too far.
Also freidnship, truthfulness... all the things we learnt in moral science classes back in school.
Spreading the Satsang society...
- Who else?
I've posted a bit of a research into the 7 wonders scamster in your friend Amit's blog post - Please convince me.
- Tumhara,
